Our Story
The Howell's Farm has been in the family for 6 generations, today represented by Fred and Cindy Howell and three adult children, Jennifer, Josh, & Erin, who often help on the farm, along with Jennifer's husband, Mike and Erin's husband, Steve.
There are also new little helpers on the farm! First came Samantha, parents Jen and Mike, then 2 months later along came Kyle, parents Erin and Steve. Fred and Cindy are proud grandparents to four new helpers on the farm; Samantha, Kyle, Wyatt and Evelyn!
About the Farm
The farm covers a little over 800 acres outside Cumming, Iowa, in the heart of Madison County about 25 miles south of Des Moines.
For years, the rolling farm land and pastures were used for growing corn, beans, hogs, and cattle, but in 1985, Fred began raising flowers specifically for dried florals.
Today, those flowers cover more than 5 acres, and guests delight to tour the gardens, as well as the greenhouse, Gift Shop and the upper floor of Howell's 1910 Barn, where the flowers are hung to dry.
The Gift Shop opened in 1995, along with a retail greenhouse operation. In 1999,Fred and Cindy opened up the Pumpkin Patch and Corn Maze, and began the special fun of sharing their beautiful farm with visitors from far and wide.
Guests enjoy the Pumpkin Patch, Corn Maze, the Kiddie Korral full of activities and excitement for young children, the Halloween Gift Shop, fall foods, wagon rides, a super selection of fall decorations, and a tour of the dried flowers and the unique and beautiful displays of gifts and florals.
